The city of San Diego has a new homelessness plan [pdf], with City Council endorsement of a strategy funded by the city's Housing Commission and created by the Corporation for Supportive Housing.
The approach of the plan is intended to be holistic, according to an article by Lisa Halverstadt that previews the next steps for the city as it addresses a homelessness problem that has flared up in high-profile incidents, like a Hepatitis A outbreak in 2017.
Among the actions prescribed in the new plan: doubling the number of supportive housing units in the city and funding new housing assistance programs. The plan sets specific targets in reducing homelessness for specific populations in the city, like youth and veterans.
According to Halverstadt, the plan also recommends a systematic approach to homelessness, rather than focusing on individual programs.
