After over a decade of work, the Big Dig is partly open for traffic and it is delighting drivers.
Dogged by cost overruns, coverups, scandal, political bickering, and a metropolis weary of the endless detours and construction, the Big Dig finally opened the first major section of the downtown tunnel. It turns out that Bostonians like the underground trip - a trip that zips drivers from downtown to Cambridge in half the time it used to take and provides an exciting underground ride that culminates in a trip across the new Zakim bridge, the widest asymmetrical cable stayed bridge in the world.
