Massachusetts Considers Raising Its $1 Jaywalking Fine

There are a few reasons one should exercise caution while crossing the street illegally. In Massachusetts, fear of a fine is not one of them.

"Massachusetts lawmakers plan to address a huge jaywalking problem in Boston by increasing the trivial fine to make violators think twice before crossing," reports Chantee Lans.

The current fine for jaywalking in Boston and elsewhere around the state is $1. Senate Majority Leader Harriette Chandler has decided that's not enough of a deterrent. "After jaywalking was blamed for the deaths outside of a senior home in her district of Worcester, Chandler proposed a bill raising the fine to $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second, and $75 for the third," reports Lans.
