A fake news report from the fake news site The Onion lampoons the American culture of excess and its disregard for environmental consequences.
"From wind, to solar, to battery-powered cars—the scientific community is constantly developing for Americans to blindly waste," according to a satirical video report by the fake news site The Onion.
The jist of the "Tech Trends" report: whatever energy technology advancements scientists achieve, and any environmental benefit that might result, will just serve as an excuse for Americans to waste energy in other ways.
For every potential energy technology advancement, the report imagines two ways that the new technology will allow Americans to continue to waste energy.
Finally, Samantha Leonard, CEO of a fake company called Green Forward explains that the "benefits" of adopting new green technology far outweigh the "costs": "Anytime you transition to a new energy system you face an initial investment. But you can't put a pricetag on being able to keep a second full-sized refrigerator in your garage for the two times a year you throw a party."
