"Sprawl claims 500 acres of open space in the Atlanta area each week, creating a region where the suburbs now contain 65.8 percent of the region's office space... The effects are everywhere, including the loss of green space now occupied by mega-malls; traffic congestion; air and water pollution; the lack of a sense of community; the creation of mega-schools; a greater disparity between have and have-not communities; and even waistline sprawl (the increase in obesity)."
