"Surreal but true, there is a gated community in San Francisco's drug-, alcohol- and sex-shop-filled Tenderloin...[one homeowner group has] gated off a tiny cul-de-sac where their front doors [are] open to the elements." The residents forked over $12,740 to pay for the 8-foot-high (and permanently unlocked) gate, which has proved successful, at least to those behind it. What has been the impact on this historic neighborhood?
