Hillside Project Rejected To Protect Sheep

Plan to construct 63 hillside homes is rejected to protect thehabitat of the endangered Peninsular Bighorn Sheep in California's Riverside County.

The Peninsular Bighorn Sheep is listed as an endangered species since 1998. In California's Coachella Valley, the sheep are found on the rocky hillsides borderingresort cities. The City Council has rejected a planto add 63 hillside homes to protect the sheep's habitat.The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service held public hearingsto get feedback on designating parts of Riverside,Imperial and San Diego counties as critical habitatfor the sheep. Developers oppose the proposedboundary complaining that it goes too far.
