The city council in Saratoga Springs, Utah has amended its city code to align with new state rules about internal accessory dwelling units (ADUs), reports Nichole Whiteley in the Daily Herald. “The council agreed they want to keep the parking requirement of four parking spaces required for a separated single-family dwelling,” meaning additional parking will be required if a garage is used as part of a dwelling.
The amendments also change the definition of short-term rentals and adjust requirements for occupancy permits. “The previous requirements for registering an IADU with the Community Development department were amended to require an occupancy permit for an IADU, which must be obtained prior to occupancy. Failure to do so will now result in a fine immediately, a change from the previous requirements to register the IADU within 12 months of occupancy.”
New IADUs are subject to local regulations and, if there is no homeowners association, require a 66 percent approval from property owners within 500 feet.
