Car-Free Market Street Approved in San Francisco

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Board of Directors approved the Better Market Street plan on October 15, 2019.

"San Francisco will soon kick cars off one of its busiest thoroughfares when Market Street goes car-free in January 2020," reports Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez.

The plan is intended to transform the busy thoroughfare that cuts through Downtown San Francisco. Pedestrians will have more freedom and comfort and transit will be unclogged from automobile congestion.

According to Rodriguez, the meeting was well intended by supporters of the plan. San Francisco Mayor London Breed also supports the plan.

A separate article by Rachel Swan also reported the news, calling the Better Market Street plan a "once radical" idea.
