The Atlantic Avenue Mixed Use Plan includes infrastructure investments and could bring 4,600 new housing units to parts of Brooklyn.

The New York City Council approved the Atlantic Avenue Mixed Use Plan (AAMUP), a package of zoning reforms that could add over 4,000 new housing units to the Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods.
According to an article in BK Reader, the plan includes over $235 million for infrastructure and streetscape upgrades to accommodate new development. “The plan will revitalize a roughly 21-block stretch of Atlantic Avenue and neighboring streets between Vanderbilt Avenue and Nostrand Avenue.”
Zoning codes have largely banned new housing in the area since the 1960s, despite its proximity to jobs and transit. “There were many community meetings throughout the past several years, with many residents calling for protections for tenants living in rent-stabilized homes so they are not displaced out of the area and get priority access to the new affordable units.”
