Harris County has a home buyout program, designed to reduce the amount of residents living in flood-prone homes. But when it comes to home buyouts, a lot of money goes a little way.

"Harris County will receive $35.4 million in federal funds for its buyout program of homes flooded during Hurricane Harvey," reports Elizabeth Myong.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery funding is expected to buy 160 homes, allowing current residents to move out of flood-prone areas.
The Harris County Flood Control District is also receiving $26.5 million to spend toward its home buyout plan. That funding will come from the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and, along with local matching funds, buyout 169 flood-prone homes.
