Minnesota Investing $346 Million in Affordable Housing

A $988 million bonding bill approved by Minnesota state legislators earlier this year is paying off in funding for affordable housing projects around the state.

The state of Minnesota has announced a $346 million affordable housing package as residents struggle to deal with the rising costs of housing.

The $346 million package includes $126 million allotted to Minnesota Housing Finance Agency to invest in the building or preserving of 1,800 housing units around the state.

Brian Johnson provides additional coverage of the state's affordable housing package in a separate article, noting that the $126 million allotted to Minnesota Housing is up about 58 percent from last year's funding. "Funding increased in part because of $25 million in state appropriations and $42 million in Housing Infrastructure Bonds in the 2017 state bonding bill, according to Minnesota Housing," explains Johnson.
