Friday Eye Candy: Denmark's New LEGO House Has Starchitect Pedigree

Jason Sayer reports from Billund, Denmark, where the country recently celebrated the opening of the new LEGO House, adjacent to the city's LEGOLAND theme park location.

Sayer provides an architectural and design review of the new iconic building—made more iconic by its architect, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Here's a summary paragraph from Sayer's explanation of the building:

Though colorful from the sky, the LEGO House is predominantly white at the street level. Ninety-thousand white clip-on ceramic tiles wrap around the building, each abiding by the proportions of a two-by-four LEGO brick. This reference to the toy-maker’s most iconic brick can be found more explicitly in what Ingels calls the LEGO House’s “keystone.”

Billund was already a mecca for LEGO fans, housing the aforementioned LEGOLAND theme park, the LEGO Group headquarters, and a LEGO factory on the town's outskirts.
