A long-awaited BART extension into San Jose, California is also bringing major development interest of the transit-oriented variety.
"The future Berryessa BART station in San Jose has sparked plans for a full-fledged transit village where 10,000 or more office workers could be employed and walk, cycle, or speed to their jobs on the rapid-transit line," reports George Avalos.
"Office towers, a grocery store, restaurants, shops and thousands of homes are being planned next to the BART Berryessa station in northeast San Jose, as part of the Market Park San Jose transit village that is beginning to rise at the Berryessa Flea Market site," adds Avalos.
Add the Berryessa transit village plans to the list of transit oriented mega-developments on the table in San Jose. In June, details emerged about a multi-use development proposal for an area around the Diridon Station (soon to have BART service in addition to its multiple regional and inter-city rail lines) area, with backing from Google and Trammell Crowe.
