This book, written by The H. John Heinz III Center for Science, Economics and the Environment, offers a blueprint for compiling and presenting data on the condition and use of the nation's ecosystems. Developed by experts from businesses, environmentalnonprofits, academia and government agencies, "it is designed to providepolicy-makers and the general public with a succinct and comprehensive -- yetscientifically sound and nonpartisan -- view of 'how we are doing.' ...The book identifies the major characteristics of ecosystems that should be tracked through time to provide this view, and where possible, provides information on both current conditions and historic trends."
