A unique railway in Germany has a new look.
Ulrike Hofsähs reports that the Wuppertal suspension railway, the one-of-a-kind suspended tram, has completed its decades long renovation project.
"It took two decades for crews to finish work on the stations and the support structures along the track, which runs for 13.3 km," writes Hofsähs. "The project cost a total of € 634-million. The modernization work was completed in stages - while the rail line was still in use." Because the suspended rail line is one of a kind, the entire renovation project was a custom build.
Earlier this month, five new railcars debuted on the line, with 31 new cars in total expected to be in service by 2018.
