Los Angeles plans to dust off a forgotten airport in Palmdale in order to distribute the region's increased demand for air travel.
"Thirty-one years after hundreds of people crowded into the Palmdale Airport terminal to watch Los Angeles Mayor Sam Yorty dedicate the facility, a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire and secured with a heavy brass padlock guards the entrance... Los Angeles officials are acutely aware of the empty airport's presence, and hope to base commercial air service there again soon. Hahn has made the aging facility a centerpiece for his plan to redistribute air traffic around Southern California."
