The requirement to provide paratransit services is written into the Americans With Disabilities Act, so transit agencies must continue to find ways to provide these essential services as cost-effectively as possible.

"Paratransit service for people with disabilities is a big part of what modern transit agencies do, and it’s getting bigger all the time," according to an article by Angie Schmitt.
With difficult task of providing paratransit for an aging population without impacting other bus and train services in mind, the Rudin Center for Transportation at NYU released a new report that "lays out how to provide quality paratransit service without breaking the bank," according to Schmitt.
Schmitt's coverage of the new report includes insight into four of the main recommendations in the report, with more detail in the full article:
- Partner with ride-hailing services.
- Modernize ride reservation and fare payment systems.
- Provide real-time information.
- Right-size vehicles.
