Joan Lowry of the Associated Press reports big news in drones. On Monday, new safety rules regulating the operation of commercial drones went into effect. The article estimates that 600,000 commercial drone aircraft will be operating in the United States within the year.

Lowry lists some of the highlights of the new rules, but also headlines the story with attention grabbing appeal: enjoy the drone-less skies while you still can.

An August 2016 report from the National League of Cities is also available to help cities prepare for the eventuality of commercial drone operations.
