Elliot Njus reports that the Portland-area's first new highway in 34 years opens today.

"The four-lane, 2.5-mile Sunrise Expressway extends the Milwaukie Expressway east to connect to Clackamas Highway and includes no other exits," according to Njus. The highway opened at 5 am this morning, and includes two new bicycle and pedestrian paths.

"The $130 million project is meant to take traffic off local streets and make a faster connection for freight trucks traveling between the Clackamas Industrial Area and Interstate 205," explains Njus.
