A new garden has opened in Detroit's Osborn neighborhood. It's described as the city's first outdoor learning garden.
"The Osborn Neighborhood Alliance and the Greening of Detroit teamed up to create the city’s first outdoor 'learning garden,'" according to an article by Kyla Smith. The new garden opened earlier this month, with hopes for fighting blight and educating residents in the neighborhood about the natural environment.
Smith also places the new garden in the larger efforts to improve the Osborn neighborhood, many of which have been spearheaded by the Osborn Neighborhood Alliance (ONA). Greening of Detroit also has large additional plans for the neighborhood. "At the end of May, the Greening of Detroit will partner with the Alliance for the Great Lakes and the Detroit Eastside Community Collaborative to transform the bus stop on Gratiot Avenue and Conner Avenue into a 'green bus stop' that will include a new bus shed and benches," adds Smith.
