It might surprise many that London does not offer overnight service on its subway system—while cities like New York, Chicago, Berlin, and Sydney do. That will change in September, however.
Cassie Werber reports on a game changer in London: the London Underground will begin offering overnight service on weekends in September 2015. The "Night Tube," as the collection of routes that will offer the service is called, will allow many transit users to avoid the infamously crowded and slow Night Bus that currently serves as the only late night transit option in the city.
Cassie Werber is effusive about the benefits of the new service, writing that the Night Tube will change the character of the city. The article cites the findings of a study commissioned by Transport for London [pdf], which says the Night Tube will add £360 million ($570 million) to the economy over 30 years.
