New immigrants to Northeast Ohio bypass the city and move directly into the suburbs.

Historically, immigrants to America have settled in ethnic enclaves within walking distance of jobs and local merchants. Census 2000 data show that in Cleveland, new immigrants are skipping right past older urban neighborhoods and settling into the suburbs. In fact, some of Cleveland's suburbs have surpassed the city in immigrant population.
