Over the past decade, to both lure and keep professional franchises, there has been an explosion of stadium and ballpark building in traditional big cities...as well as in up-start metropolises....Undoubtedly, having one or more pro sports teams is terrific for civic pride...however...[s]tudies show that stand-alone stadium and ballpark developments rarely deliver on their promise to make money for their host cities... To find out what it takes to make stadiums a winning strategic play in fostering downtown integration, Reis's Sam Truitt talks with Geoffrey Booth, director of retail development at Urban Land Institute and a pioneer in the concepts of the creation of "place" as the foundation of successful real estate development.
