New owner Richard Rotenberg of Hopkins, MN, received a demolition permit over the counter to raze the historic Maslon House, one of only three Palm Springs-area homes designed by Modern master Richard Neutra.
Despite close monitoring and last-minute efforts by preservationists, the historic Maslon House was demolished within a month of its purchase by Richard Rotenberg. Richard Neutra designed the house in 1962 for art collectors Samuel and Luella Maslon, whose heirs sold the home to Rotenberg for $2.45 million through Sotheby's International Real Estate. The home was reportedly in pristine original condition.
