Recommendation To Ban Billboards In L.A.

The Planning Commission has recommended to the L.A. City Council that all new billboards be banned.

The Planning Commission's recommendation to the Los Angeles City Council also includes the rejection of a proposal to allow billboards along freeways in exchange for the removal of 2,000 signs elsewhere in the city. The billboards are referred to as "visual blight." Billboard companies believe that the city council will agree to the exchange plan, since it voted to tentatively allow it last June. One councilperson noted that 8 new council members have been elected since then.
