Denver has proposed a $4.35-billion, 10-year plan to expand rail and bus lines. The plan is funded by a 0.4-cent sales tax increase.
"The Regional Transportation District wants to spend $4.35 billion on an accelerated 10-year plan that would build light rail, commuter rail and express bus lanes throughout the Denver metro area funded primarily by a sales-tax increase. To pay for the massive project, RTD wants to ask metro-area voters to approve a 0.4-cent sales tax hike in November 2002. Construction could begin in 2003 and all lines could be completed by 2013."
