In 15 years, the number of cars on the road worldwide is expected to hit 2 billion. Dan Sperling thinks focusing on electric vehicles and low carbon fuel standards will allow us to hit number and survive.
Eric Wesoff heard Sperling speak recently:
"According to Sperling, there are three pillars in the Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) picture -- vehicles, fuels and VMT (vehicle miles travelled). Although California has the most comprehensive policies in the world to reduce transportation green house gases, the most progress has been on the vehicle front and the least on VMT."
He believes that by the time we reach 2 billion vehicles, the "vast majority" of them will run on alternative energies.
