Andres Duany is hired to build a new-urbanist mini-city in Tyson's Corner. Not everyone believes in the concept, however.
"One of the most famous urban planners in the world arrived in Tysons Corner last week with a small army of architects and engineers and a healthy dose of bravado about his plans to transform a small corner of suburbia into a preeminent urban community. ... [Duany] has been hired to redevelop a 40-acre parcel of Tysons Corner, which now has 577 apartments and a Safeway, into a mini-city where as many as 12,000 people might live in a dozen apartment buildings. Residential towers as high as 12 or 15 stories will be complemented by a small shopping center, high-end stores, restaurants, office buildings and an upscale hotel."
