J.C Penny versus The Gap: Traditional established retailers are under assault from new retailers. The battle wll be brutal and leave a scar on the urban environment. "[E]stablished retailers -- Foley's, Lord & Taylor, J.C. Penney, Macy's, Dillard's and others -- are under assault. Wal-Mart and Target are the mighty and affordable, hybrid Kohl's is growing fast, and other merchants are turning sections of the traditional department store into whole new chains, such as Victoria's Secret, Circuit City and Bed Bath & Beyond.
