The Segway Transporter, a people mover that has never met initial sales expectations, introduces two new models.
The two new models, a street version known as the i2 and all-terrain model, the x2, which can go "off-sidewalking" on dirt, grass, and sand, hope to increase sales worldwide with more "intuitive controls."
Some of the new specifications of the Segway include: a wireless controller that allows the user to turn the vehicle on from a distance, and an alarm when a "stranger" stands on the vehicle.
While Segway remains a privately held company and does not disclose sales figures, marketing officials at the company do concede that getting people to purchase a Segway has been difficult because "they tend to be in cars." Will the Segway transform itself from curious oddity to mainstream success?
