Department of Housing and Urban Development will increase rent subsidies to low-income renters under the Section 8 rental program.

"Higher rents are a 'cruel irony' of the robust economy" said Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Andrew M. Cuomo. HUD will increase rent subsidies to low-income renters under the Section 8 rental program. "Some housing advocates across the Washington area lauded the news. Still, they said, it wasn't clear how much thenew policy would ease the lives of the working poor."
