Good subway system and bike path network make the D.C. area fertile ground for car-sharing companies.

"Parking hassles and high car maintenance costs complete the equation to make the DC area the only one in which both major hourly car rental companies compete. The two companies boast more than 200 cars and 14,000 members between them in the metropolitan area. Local governments enthusiastically embrace them. Arlington County provides 20 dedicated parking spots near Metro stations. Greenbelt makes a car available to residents of a senior center for $1/hour."
