Proposals to list the city of Sibiu/Hermannstadt draw attention to other threats to the heritage of the area
The Municipality of Sibiu - one of the finest mediaeval cities in Romania and one of the best preserved in Europe - has managed to lead the Romanian government to seek UNESCO World Heritage listing for the city. The move is a welcome reminder of the amazing architectural heritage of Transylvania, but it also draws attention to a number of threats to the area's environment and cultural patrimony. A conference in November will draw attention to the issue.
