The proposed rail line would connect Chicago to Pittsburgh.

A group of regional agencies has contracted with HTNB Corporation to develop a plan for the Midwest Connect Corridor Identification and Development (CID), a proposed passenger rail project connecting Chicago, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Columbus, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to a press release from the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, “In December 2023, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) awarded the City of Fort Wayne a $500,000 Corridor Identification and Development grant. The federal grant funds the development of a scope, schedule and budget for performing corridor planning and preparing a Service Development Plan to implement passenger rail service from Pittsburgh to Chicago via Fort Wayne and Columbus.”
The plan will help the project acquire future grants for implementation.
