Angie Schmitt has compiled a list of the ways gender bias is apparent in transportation and city building, inspired by an anecdote from the new book Invisible Women about how women, despite being safer drivers than men, are 17 percent more likely to be killed in a crash "because cars have been designed around the bodies of male crash test dummies."
Schmitt's list includes features of the transportation system, like car seats, taxis, buses, and "hyper macho trucks." Land use consideration like single-family zoning and parking lots also make the list.
