Redfin released its updated transit scores for 2019 and, while there’s little change in the ranking, cities like D.C. and New York did see changes in their scores.
Transit Score, the transit evaluation index from real estate company Redfin, has been released for 2019. This index, like Walk Score before it, rates cities on a scale between one and 100 to measure the proximity and frequency of transit. New York City maintained the top spot, though its score sank three points, likely due to issues with subway delays. Washington D.C.’s score went up two points, but it stays in fourth, right behind Boston.
The service, which initially ranked only larger cities, has begun looking at some communities with less than 300,000 residents. This new index shows how some small urban communities have excellent transit access and shows some regional trends.
"The results also show that cities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic tend to rank higher for public transit, with more than half of the top entries found in these regions. The West Coast was close behind with cities from California and Washington, while Chicago and nearby Oak Park were the sole cities ranked highly in the Midwest," Emily Hochberg writes for Redfin.
