The city of Pittsburgh has a new resource for funding affordable housing projects.
"More than 200 affordable apartments and rental rooms will be renovated thanks to the first allocation of housing dollars from a city fund," reports Kate Giammarise.
The Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority board approved the funding this week, to be spent from the city's Housing Opportunity Fund.
"The approvals mark the first money allocated for housing from the fund since city council approved its creation in 2016 and approved funding it last year. Prior to that, activists pushed for the creation of a fund for some time, pointing to the city’s shortage of affordable housing units," according to Giammarise.
More details on the project enabled by the funding and several other actions by the board follow.
