Do you love your local park? Planners made it possible.
Are you stressed about climate change? Planners are creating policies to respond.
Do you want to make our cities more equitable? Planners are figuring out how.
The Department of City and Regional Planning (CRP) at Cornell University is a community committed to shaping the future of cities and regions around the world.
In our department we plan for a sustainable future by considering climate adaptation, transportation and infrastructure systems, affordable housing, economic development, and environmental sustainability. We confront inequality by embedding justice and equity in plans, policies, processes, and people that shape governance and form institutions. We transform the built environment through urban design, historic preservation, circular reuse, capturing city histories, and digital storytelling. We map, model, and analyze neighborhoods, using GIS, urban data analytics, spatial and statistical analysis, and qualitative methods. We engage communities using ethical and accountable collaboration, partnerships, and participatory research. We re-imagine planning by reflecting on theories, practices, contradictions, and politics.
CRP is located in Ithaca, NY, on Cornell University's main campus, where world-leading faculty, labs, and libraries provide unique opportunities for in-depth research and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Our department extends to New York City, a nearby metropolis and hub of policy making, and Rome, a cosmopolitan crossroads between Europe, the Mediterranean and north Africa regions. Our faculty, classes, and research are deeply rooted in Upstate New York as well as places worldwide. The Masters of Regional Planning (MRP) is a STEM-designated program, making international graduates eligible to extend their F-1 visas for up to three years for work in the US.
