Angie Schmitt broke the news to U.S. audiences this week that London Mayor Sadiq Khan is planning to "ban the construction of new parking spaces in home and office developments in large parts of the city."

More details of the proposal emerged later in the week, as part of the mayor's first London Plan—a 500-page document that lays out the city's 25-year growth plan. According to an article by the BBC, the Mayor Khan is focusing on loosening planning laws to allow more housing. Conservatives in the city say the mayor has "declared war on the suburbs."

Rachel Dovey also picked up on the news of the plan, noting the benefits to air quality that can also be achieved by the policy goals put forward by Mayor Khan's new London plan. Martin Coulter also provides additional coverage of the proposed ban on parking construction.
