Out of 23 cities, New York City came in first, Indianapolis came in 23rd.
Kristin Musulin shares news of a new report published by Arcadis that ranks the 23 North American cities on "overall sustainability of urban transportation systems." The ranking includes measures of social, environmental, and economic impact, according to Musulin's summary of the study.
It probably won't surprise many that New York City took the top spot. San Francisco, Vancouver, Montreal, and Washington, D.C., followed, in that order.
Arcadis also produces an Overall Global Mobility Ranking. According to Musulin, New York placed 23rd when compared to the rest of the world's transit systems, "indicating that North American cities are falling behind European and Asian cities due to a car-centric culture."
