The Portland International Airport is getting its first major upgrade since 1956. Airlines would have to split the bill.
"Portland International Airport is planning a five-year, $1.3 billion effort to reinvent the core of its terminal," reports Eliot Njus.
"If it moves forward, the renovation will be the airport's first chance to catch up with the realities of post-9/11 air travel," explains Njus, "which require massive security operations not envisioned when the terminal was built." The renovation will also increase capacity after years of increasing traveler volumes.
The plan still requires approval from the airlines that operate at the airport.
