The Republican governor's transportation priorities align with the administration’s agenda, according to the Washington Post.
Maryland's Governor Larry Hogan recently met with top administration officials, including Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, to share a transportation priority list that the Washington Post calls "heavy on megaprojects and light on transit."
Priorities include replacing the American Legion Bridge over the Potomac, widening parts of Interstate 81, and building maglev rail between Washington and Baltimore.
Missing from Hogan’s list … were the Washington region’s sagging Metro system, the Purple Line light-rail project connecting Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, and the Corridor Cities Transitway, a bus rapid-transit project in Montgomery.
Instead, the projects listed tend to incorporate public-private partnerships and promise national economic impacts; for instance, 70 percent of public benefits from one tunnel and bridge project will be outside the state.
