A nascent effort to legalize casino gambling in the state of Georgia fell short of the necessary legislative support.

"Legislation that would have allowed casino gambling in Georgia is dead for the year," reports Aaron Gould Sheinin.
Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) sponsored the bill, Senate Bill 79, which failed to garner enough support to move past the Georgia State Senate's Regulated Industries Committee. The bill would have allowed six casinos and a horse-racing track in the state.
Despite the failure of Senate Bill 79, Senator Beach promised that he would renew his effort to legalize gambling in the state in 2018.
