The NextBus system, which predicts arrival times for San Francisco's buses and trains, has been unusable for four weeks.
Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez reports on the political fallout from what he calls "Muni’s NextBus meltdown," which has left hundreds of thousand transit users without reliable transit arrival information.
Intermittent outages and unreliable information began to spread through the system on January 4, according to Fitzgerald Rodriguez. Coverage by SFGate and SFBay provide insight to the outages as they emerged.
"Last week, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Director of Transit Ed Reiskin apologized for the NextBus outage during an SFMTA board meeting," reports Fitzgerald Rodriguez. This week, County Supervisor London Breed voiced her displeasure with the situation at a board meeting. After the meeting, "Breed told the San Francisco Examiner she may call for a hearing into the matter, which would prompt transportation officials to testify publicly about the bus prediction outages."
