SEPTA commuters traveling to and from Delaware will spend the summer in transit gridlock, as 120 trains undergo necessary repairs to a serious structural flaw.

"More than 2,000 Delaware commuters will face inconveniences as SEPTA reduces peak time service almost in half to make necessary repairs to trains," reports Zoë Read.
One hundred and twenty Silverliner V Regional Rail cars will require repair, potentially taking the trains out of service for the rest of the summer. Jason Laughlin reported earlier that the flaw amounted to "a crack in a weight-bearing beam on a train car's undercarriage." The Silverliner Vs are the newest trains in SEPTA's Regional Fleet—going into service between 2011 and 2013.
Meanwhile, the SEPTA routes will run a modified Saturday schedule during the week. Mark Dent writes commentary arguing that SEPTA's loss could be Uber's gain. According to Dent, Uber has already revamped its service to address the loss of service in the Washington, D.C. during MetroRail's SafeTrack repair program.
