A satirical New Yorker article nails the perpetual debate between New York and Los Angeles.
Cirocco Dunlap writes of the perpetual draw to New York from Los Angeles, and vice versa, ad infinitum. The article is bursting with hyperbole—which would be ridiculous if it also weren't so accurate in describing the kinds of think and trend pieces that have gone before.
An example of why one would leave Los Angeles for New York:
On my first hike in L.A., I had to talk to someone who’d never read Joan Didion and who’d had—get this—plastic surgery. Before he could say 'juice cleanse,' I had ridden a fixed-gear bicycle right back to the Big Apple.
But immediately after, an example of why one would leave New York for Los Angeles:
My bike wouldn’t fit in my two-inch-wide urine-soaked apartment in Sunset Park, so I found someone to take over my lease and I rode a Segway all the way to Hollywood, eating local fruits and reciting positive affirmations as I rolled merrily along.
It's always something, and at the very least, maybe this story a not-so-subtle reminder for some people that changing locations isn't always the solution to life's problems.
