With a tradition of bicycle and pedestrian planning dating back to 1973, the Atlanta Regional Commission is currently updating its Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, with an expected completion date of December 2015.
"Atlanta planners are coming up with a new bike and pedestrian plan for the region," reports Molly Samuel. The new plan updates a 2007 plan completed by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC).
The article quotes ARC transportation planner Byron Rushing to explain the plan is meant to get more people to adopt forms of active transportation. "With things like the BeltLine, and people and companies moving closer to transit, this is a good time to look at the future of how people will get around, Rushing said. He said this is not just a bureaucratic process, with policy makers staring at maps. Instead, he said they’re looking at how people really travel now."
ARC will be collecting public feedback on the plan this fall.
