A new report puts natural gas ahead of coal in the U.S. energy production portfolio.
The Associated Press reports that natural gas overtook coal as the leading source of electric power generation in the United States earlier this year.
The news comes via analysis by the research company SNL Energy, which found that in April 2015, 31 percent of electric power generation came from natural gas, and 30 percent from coal.
