The November, 2001 issue of Carfree Times contains the usual world news notes & comment, three book reviews, and a feature article on Mackinac Island, nestled in the narrow straight between the two Great Lakes of Michigan and Huron: "It is a four-square-mile carfree community of around 600 year-round residents and nearly a million annual visitors... Mackinac's history shows how motorization did not develop through an inevitable law of nature."
